Proverbs 14
Bible Passage: Proverbs 14
Every verse in chapter 14 is chock full of teachings, making comparisons between the wise and the foolish. I find there is a commonality amongst the verses about the foolish man – pride. The foolish man is proud and thinks that he is self sustainable, he does not need God in his life. People of the world today rely on themselves to gain worldly success and does not care for matters of God. While they may be successful in the eyes of Man, they are fools in God’s eyes. Pride has impeded them from submitting to God and obtaining eternal salvation.
In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride – v3
Fools mock at sin – v9
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death – v12
The backlisder in heart will be filled with his own ways – v14
But a fool rages and is self confident – v16
On the contrary, the wise man is humble and fully submissive to God.
In the fear if the Lord there is strong confidence – v26
He who is slow to wrath has great understanding – v29
Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding – v33
A man is wise, only when he is NOT wise in his own eyes. He acknowledges that he is weak and needs God to steer his paths. Only then can he be saved.
Today are we fully submissive to God? Do we humble ourselves and see that we are nothing without God? Are we wise or foolish?
May He grant us spiritual wisdom to lead pleasing and submissive lives to Him.
