Psalm 110

Psalm 110

Bible Passage:  Psalm 110

This is one of the most quoted Psalm in the New Testament.

Indeed, when you read about how David described his Lord sitting at the right hand of God, our minds will immediately think of Jesus – and how He will rule in the midst of His enemies.  Jesus Himself quoted verse 1 of this Psalm to show us that He is not just a man, but the Son of God.

When people talk of Jesus – the picture they have is often that of a meek and humble man.  A warm and compassionate man who even the kids would love to draw near to.  But the picture here of Him having His enemies as His footstool would hardly appear in our minds.  But this Psalm tells us that He is God who will, on His day, execute the kings and judge the nations.

This is of great comfort to us as we struggle in this world today.

We do not need to fear those around us – not the rulers or nations nor the heads of states.  The one we need to fear is God – who will judge and determine if our soul will be in Heaven or Hell.

Teaching and learning about the commands of God is not good enough.  Each one of us have to learn to fear God and obey Him for He is always there and sees all that we do.

But that does not mean we shake and tremble in fear whenever we think about God.  Instead our fears should lead us to great joy – when we know that God will deal righteously with those who are evil and wicked.

Let us rejoice in the fact that we have a high priest forever who will always be there for us.
