1 Corinthians 7

1 Cor 7

Bible Passage:  1 Corinthians 7

Paul continues in this chapter expounding on how believers ought to handle their intimate relationships – given that we are the holy temple of the Lord.  There is quite a lot of read and absorb today but essentially Christians must fulfil their responsibilities of their present situation and live their lives as slaves and servants of Christ, knowing that the time is short.

It is this very last point that impressed me most today…

29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have w

ives should be as though they had none, 30 those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, 31 and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.

~ 1 Corinthians 7:29-31

Paul reminded the members… and we are reminded now… that the time is short.

And Paul keeps on exhorting believers to live as “though they had none”, “as if they did not”, “as if they were not”, and “as if it were not theirs to keep”.

It is a good reminder for us today as well.

If life on this world goes on forever, then it would be very difficult for us not to just indulge in our marriages, family, relationships, physical comforts etc.

But life is short.

After that is eternity.

And we are going to face that with or without God.

Eternity should be foremost in our minds.  And that should govern how we live our lives now.  The people around me are either going to be with God for eternity or apart from God for eternity.  And we can choose which group we belong to as well.  Do we continue living our lives immersed in our own comforts, desires and ignore the need of others to hear about and experience God?  Or do we now use all the things that God has give us – our home, money, resources and yes, even our marriage – to show others about the love of Jesus so that they too can experience that as well.

Life is short.

Don’t waste it.

We have only one life.

Don’t waste it.

Let us use it to have an impact not just on our own lives but also the lives of others.  For whatever we have comes from God.  Let us be good stewards and a blessing to others today.

The clock is ticking… and the Evangelistic Services are just a few days away. Let’s do our part.
