1 Kings Chapter 15

Be at peace with God

Verse 3

Abijam walked in sin and his heart was not loyal to the LORD his God. The footnote for ‘loyal’ is ‘lit. at peace’. If we are not at peace with God, we are not in a good relationship with God, then are we being loyal to God? A good relationship with our Heavenly Father is important, one where we are at peace with God.

Let us be at peace with God and have a good relationship with God because while God is patient toward us, God is also faithful to execute His will.

Do what is right in the eyes of the Lord

Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. when Asa reigned in Judah, Asa raised godly offspring, got rid of evil in the land and idols, and knew how to trust in God in times of peace.

We should also learn to raise godly offspring, to not sow to the flesh, and to importantly, trust in God in both times of peace and times of distress.

When life is smooth-sailing, we may feel independent and take pride in our own abilities, but it is important to remember that all things are in God’s hand, so we need to thank God because God allowed us to enjoy a time of peace in life.

Build each other up

Verse 26, 30, 34

Nadab and Baasha sinned and also cause Israel to sin. When we make decisions, do we consider how that may affect other brethren’s faith?

Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.

Let us not stumble our own selves or those around us, but build each other up.

Romans 14:19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.
