1 Peter Chapter 2

When we were young, we always wish to grow up faster to be like our older sibling or like our parents. When we are baptised in Jesus Christ, we become spiritual new-born babes who desire the pure milk of the word that we may grow thereby (1 Pet 2:2). However, sadly speaking, some believers never grow up because they do not desire for the pure milk of the word that will lead to spiritual growth.

We need to have desire for the Word of God.

The more we read the Word of God, the more we can see our need for God’s Word. Our spiritual appetite will increase, because God’s word lets us know God more and more so we can become spiritually mature, discerning what is best, rejecting all evil, and living to please God. We will be experiencing the goodness of the Lord through trusting in Him.

How strong is your desire for the Word of God?

In 1 Pet 2:4-8, Elder Peter portrays the church as a living spiritual temple and Christ as the foundation and cornerstone and each believers as stone. In addition, Apostle Paul portrays the church as a body with Christ as the Head and each believers as a member (Eph 4:15-16).

God wants us to be His holy priests to offer ourselves as living and spiritual sacrifices (1 Pet 2:5). Through the continuing work of God in our lives and the nurturing of God’s workers, we become spiritually mature and fit for service (Eph 4:12-13).

Not only does each believer become strong and fit for service, all believers are joined together in unity to form God’s temple, the place of God’s dwelling (Eph 4:16). Our Oneness in Christ display the fullness of Christ.

As we begin to recognize our special area of service, we need to use the talent that God had given us to strengthen and build up the church. We need to proactively looking for opportunities to serve Him.

Are we spiritually mature and exercising the talents that God has given us?
