Jeremiah Chapter 31

“Set up signposts,
Make landmarks;
Set your heart toward the highway,
The way in which you went.
Turn back, O virgin of Israel,
Turn back to these your cities.

~ Jeremiah 31:21 ~

Signs are everywhere! While signs are meant to guide us, warn us of potential dangers ahead, some of them can be very confusing! Just look at the some of the following signs!

However, when done right, signs help us… and at time save us!

However, signs can also be ignored. For example, if someone ignores an electrical shock warning sign, they may be electrocuted!

What does this have to do for Christians today?

Back in the time of Jeremiah, amidst all the chaos and breakdown of the nation of Israel, God, through His faithful prophet, had declared that He will continue to love His people with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 29:11). Though they will be taken away, God promises to restore them.

But for this to happen, they must turn back to God again.

And one way to do it is to set up for themselves signs and guides along the way to point them the way back home.

Just think. Some of the returning Jews during the times of Ezra and Nehemiah years later had never set foot or lived in their homeland before (being born in captivity). They would not know the direction to go but the right signs can lead them back to the correct path home.

God called for the Israelites to set up signposts and landmarks and set their heart on the right highway.

What signposts have we set up so that we will not lose our way home?

Attending services is one good way. Set yourself goals to attend more than one service each week.

Joining in the morning Bible reading online is another way as reading the Word of God, coupled with a time for prayer and reflection is setting your heart on the right highway.

Participating in Home Fellowships is another as you join like-minded brethren together, encouraging one another and setting up landmarks to guide edify one another.

And there is one more benefit when you start setting up these signposts and landmarks! Jesus called us to be His witnesses to the people of the world. Our signposts and landmarks can guide the lost to the right highway too!

Consider this today as we resolve to build these signposts in our lives.
