Jeremiah Chapter 39

For I will surely deliver you, and you shall not fall by the sword; but your life shall be as a prize to you, because you have put your trust in Me,” says the Lord.’ ”
~ Jeremiah 39:18 ~

What a beautiful, comforting, edifying and encouraging verse this is!

When things are tough and you are undergoing challenges, it is always encouraging things is to hear a loved one or close friend saying, “Don’t worry. Everything is going to be all right. I’m praying for you and God, in His will, will surely make a way for you!“.

In this chapter, we see how Nebuchadnezzar marched into Jerusalem and seized it. Many people were executed and their king’s eyes were gorged out! No one was sure what would happen to them – will they live or die?

But it was at this time, when God “directed’ Nebuchadnezzar to release Jeremiah, that a message was to be brought to the Ethiopian man, Ebed-Melech. Do you remember who was he?

In the last chapter, he was the one that helped saved Jeremiah’s life. He risked his life to protect the man of God. He showed trust in God and love for Jeremiah. And now, amidst the chaos and danger of possibly losing his life, the comforting words of Jeremiah 39:18 was given to him.

What Ebed-Melech did for Jeremiah, God will now do it for him!

The key here is trust and obedience.

If we live our lives in trust and obedience of God, we are putting ourselves in God’s care and protection.

But we must live out our obedience and trust first in all facets of our daily lives. And then we have this promise of God that we can hold on to.
