Jeremiah Chapter 50

Jeremiah 50 describes the word of judgment against Babylon.

Even though Babylon is God’s instrument for judgment on sinful nations (Jeremiah 27:6), it is not immune to judgment from God.  It is guilty of the same sin of idolatry.  Therefore, God will also send judgment against Babylon through a northern kingdom, Persia.

Beside Idolatry, pride was Babylon’s sin characteristic (Jeremiah 50:32). Pride comes from feeling self-sufficient or believing that we don’t need God. Proud nations or persons will eventually fail because they refuse to recognize God as the ultimate power.

Getting rid of pride is not easy, but if we ask God to help and forgive us, He will help us to overcome it. The best way to overcome pride is to focus our attention on the greatness and goodness of God.

Some people may believe that they are immune to God’s judgment because they are doing God’s work. But The Lord Himself had warned of such thinking, and rebuked those people who sounded religious but had no personal relationship with Him.

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:21-23)

We should not think that just because we know Lord Jesus, He will also know us. Knowing the Lord is important, but the most important is for the Lord to know us.

There is only one way to have a personal relationship with The Lord. We need to walk with Him! Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness, and he was called the friend of God (James 2:23). Likewise, in the same way, we must believe in God and walk with Him by faith.
