Bible Passage: Proverbs 1

There are many teachings in today’s chapter which serve as reminders for me. This chapter shows two opposites for contrasting effects.

Shun evil counsel

The first part of Proverbs 1 encourages us to flee from evil sinners who seek to entice us.

In our daily work lives it is inevitable that we get embroiled in politics. Many step on others or ‘chut’ pattern in order to get ahead. However, just because the crowd is sinning there is no reason for us to get involved. As members of the True Church, as long as we do our parts in being faithful and diligent in our work, God will surely bless us. It is meaningless if we gain the world, but lose the precious eternal inheritance in heaven.

We do not have to be intimidated and succumb to peer pressure, which is enticing for those who lack wisdom. Hence we need to pray that God gives us His spiritual wisdom not to conform to this world.

The call of wisdom

Fear of God means to worship God reverently, submitting to God entirely. ‘Fear’ here is healthy, which causes us to act in the way that God commands us to. If we put God first, everything else will fall into place nicely.

As for those who have hardened their hearts and refuse the call of God, they have nothing to look forward to. In times of trouble, they can’t seek any refuge. On the day of judgement, God will not sympathise with those who have rejected His salvation.

Hence, while the door of God is still wide open for us, we must take the opportunity to repent and turn back to God while there is still time.

May God grant us spiritual wisdom to lead us in our walks of faith.
