Psalm 69

Psalm 69

Bible Passage: Psalms 69

Psalms 69 has a very contrasting tone if we read the first portion of this chapter and comparing it with the ending verses of this chapter.

It goes from sinking in the beginning (vv. 1 – 3, 14 – 15), to singing towards the end (vv. 30 – 36); from prayer for help to praises for God’s deliverance.

Our lives in the Lord should also be similar to this psalm  because as we know for a fact that we won’t experience smooth sailing journeys in our lives, but we all must know that we have a sure Anchor that can ensure our safety through the waves and storms along the way.

I believe we all have experienced difficult times, and often time we knew how to pray to God for comfort and helps, but sadly very often we didn’t know how to entrust our prayers and petitions to God; and that was the reason why we still couldn’t feel peace after our long hours of prayers.

Through the inspiration of God, David penned this psalm to comfort and assure us that though we may have to experience difficult times, we must not feel that God is not listening and not empathizing with our pains, for He knows when He would vindicate us and pour comfort upon us.

                    Let their table become a snare before them,

                And their well-being a trap.

                    Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see;

               And make their loins shake continually.

                    Pour out Your indignation upon them,

               And let Your wrathful anger take hold of them.

                    Let their dwelling place be desolate;

               Let no one live in their tents.

               Psalms 69: 22 – 25

These words may sound like David yearns for revenge, but I don’t think it is totally so. I believe these are the words of God to David and to us that He will not let the wicked go unpunished, just like what he had revealed to us through prophet Nahum,

               God is jealous, and the Lord avenges;

               The Lord avenges and is furious.

               The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries,

               And He reserves wrath for His enemies;

                    The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,

               And will not at all acquit the wicked.

               The Lord has His way

               In the whirlwind and in the storm,

               And the clouds are the dust of His feet.

               Nahum 1: 2 – 3

So we have to pray and entrust into the hands of God in all things, and we also have to abide by His righteousness so that our enemies are also God’s enemies.

This psalm is also a messianic psalm, for out of David’s sufferings, God revealed His Son who came to suffer for our sins.

So in this psalm, we can also learn that the purpose of God in allowing us to suffer is that we might become more like Christ.

Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also

                        with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

                                that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men,

                        but for the will of God.

                        1Peter 4: 1 – 2

Let us all focus on our Lord Jesus as we lead our daily lives, walk closer to Him daily and to love Him more each day, then we shall truly appreciate what Apostle Paul had admonished us,

                        And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God,

                        to those who are the called according to His purpose.

                        Romans 8: 28

Shalom.

    Thanks for sharing. Psalms is full of similar chapters of cries for help and God’s power. It’s hard to distinguish all from each other. But it’s good to learn more.
