Psalm

Psalm – Psalm 125-127

Today we will be reading another 3 short psalms of ascents.

Let us read on and learn from the psalmist some precious teachings that we can apply to our walk with the Lord.

Bible Passage: Psalms 125 to 127

As I read these 3 psalms, the words Reassurance, Revival and Reliance came to my mind.

Reassurance

The words used in Psalm 125 are truly very reassuring to me, and after reading through this psalm over for a few times, I feel that we as the children of God are very precious in the sight of God, it is even like being pampered by God’s special grace.

When we put full trust in God, we are like mountains, firmly rooted and unshakable! But it pleases God to do more for us; He goes on to surround us and giving us the best security all around. Have you ever heard of any gods in the world who would love their followers with such intense love? There is none beside our True God the Creator, who is truly our Heavenly Father who yearns eagerly for our security and our salvation.

Let us ask ourselves constantly, can we put full trust in God, or are we still feeling that we ourselves know what is best for us and thus shun the Almighty’s divine wisdom and love?

Let us also not envy the wicked when they seem to prosper, let us not emulate the wicked to strive after those things which they call “wealth” because God says…

“Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them,

For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him,

For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

Isa. 3:10 – 11

Indeed God has already willed well to the righteous, and to the wicked, they shall receive ill. Stay on the path of righteousness and we shall receive the promised abundant goodness from our Lord.

Revival

The Israelites were taken captive due to their disobedience to God, but He did not forsake them totally, neither did He give up on them. God brought them back in miraculous ways that even the gentile nations were amazed!

We in the flesh are often weak and tend to disobey God, but when we realize our sins and mistakes, we must not give up on ourselves and feel unworthy to come back to the feet of our Lord, for He has never given up on us. When we realize our sins, repent and run back to God and He will receive us with open arms (ref. 1 John 1: 9). But of course we must not sin willfully, thinking that God will surely forgive our sins after we have purposely satisfied our desires (ref. Hebrews 10: 26)!

Reliance

It is right and normal that in life, we have to grow up to be independent, but this is very true and necessary to a certain extant, because we MUST NOT grow to become independent from God! We need to lead a life of dependence and reliance on God.

Unless the LORD builds the house,

They labor in vain who build it;

Unless the LORD guards the city,

The watchman stays awake in vain.

Ps. 127:1

This verse is enough to tell us a serious fact that we can do nothing, nothing at all, without the Lord! To put it bluntly, we are all handicaps without the Lord’s presence and providence.

Many of us have been Christians for many years, but to be able to put full trust in God takes much effort in our spiritual nurture. There are times that we will feel weak and hopeless, but fear not, for He has given us the Word to Reassure us time after time in our spiritual battles.

His words and His Holy Spirit can cause Revival to our souls when we have fallen due to our weaknesses, only do not shun the calling and wooing of our Heavenly Father.

After we have been revived, continue to strive forward in our heavenly journey with FULL Reliance on the Holy Spirit for strength, for without God, we are but dust!

Shalom mentioned that many of us have been Christians for many years, but to be able to put full trust in God takes much effort in our spiritual nurture.

This reminds me of one of Pr Chin AQ’s sermon where he mentioned something on trust and faith. He said that though we may have shown faith by praying to God to ask Him for help in times of need but yet after praying, we still continue doubting and worrying. Though there’s faith but it is of one that failed. This alerted me and I realize that I am personally guilty of this.

However, these Psalms reminds us to put our entire trust in Him and not doubt for He will surely be here leading us all the way(:

    Hi (:,

It is truly wonderful that we have a loving Saviour that leads His children along. What you just said reminded me of a hymn and more ….

Some through the waters, some through the flood
Some through the fire, but all through the blood.
Some through great sorrow but God gives a song.
In the night season and all the day long.

When David wrote Ps 126, i guess his heart must be burning with inspiration from God to pen down this encouragement for Israelites, which was applicable 450 years later when the captives first returned, 2500 years later when Israel was reinstated and even till now.

In the D2D training this afternoon, many interesting points are brought up, i learn much today.

    1 of them for sharing:

Knowing God gives us peace. This is the peace from the true God:
It is vain for you to rise up early,
    To sit up late,
    To eat the bread of sorrows;
For so He gives His beloved sleep. (Ps127:2)

We can toil and labour from early morning to late at night. We can worry to the point the even our meals taste of sorrows. We are stressed to the point of insomnia. These are all vanity.

To be able to sleep is peace from God.惟主所亲爱的,必叫他安然睡觉.

This is a fallen world with many imperfections. Complete the journey of faith to reach the kingdom of heaven where there is no more tears.
