Psalms 12-14

Alriiiiiiiiight…after you get over the shock seeing the above slogan on a BIBLE blog, maybe you want to guess where it is from and why I chose to use it for our post today.

.

.

.

Would it surprise you to learn that this above slogan is not just the belief/opinion of an individual or a few but is that of a campaign in Britain? Imagine spending £140, 000 to splash this slogan on trains and buses – 200 bendy buses in London and 600 others across England, Scotland and Wales (according to the news report).

For readers who have read the three psalms for today, I guess you already know why I specially mentioned this.

For those who have not, I’m sure after reading Psalms 12 to 14, you’ll know why.

Bible Passage: Psalms 12 – 14

Now, since we have all have read them, let me draw out the particular verses that made me think of using something along the line of the above campaign as a point of discussion.

Who have said,
         “With our tongue we will prevail;
         Our lips are our own;
Who is lord over us?” (Psalm 12:4)

The fool has said in his heart,
         “There is no God.”
         They are corrupt,
         They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good. (Ps 14:1)

As I was preparing to write today’s post and searching for suitable images to accompany it, I started searching with the terms ‘fool’, foolish man’, ‘there is no God’, ‘the fool says in his heart’.

The amount and form of atheist ‘doctrine’ that was returned to me were rather frightful and disturbing.

It just goes to show that the timeless truths in the Bible stand. There were people who did not believe in God then, there are people who do not believe in God now.

However, the assessment the Bible has on these people also remains the same for truly, without knowing God, no matter how intelligent or good a person is, he or she still remains foolish and unrighteous.

Therefore, let’s look around us today. Let’s look at ourselves too.

While some may believe that everything they see around them is a result of a huge explosion, I prefer to believe they were fashioned lovingly and put in place by a mighty hand.

While others may believe they are a result of a series of (unexplained) changes that transformed them from apes, I prefer to believe I am created in the image and likeness of my Heavenly Father.

What about you?

I don’t know about you guys, but whenever i read Psalms i can feel David’s deep anger and vengefulness towards his enemies. Sometimes to a point that is fearfully self serving righteousness. Reminds me of Job. Not that i totally disagree with King David, but didn’t the bible also says to be forgiving to those trespasses us? I hope some Deacon or Preacher would please enlighten me on this matter.

In line with the above thought, I am thinking, Are we quick to portray ourselves as victim (in self-defense)when we are actually the cause of all that happen? In the case of King David, yes i agree his situation is very dire… have been tormented by his enemies etc.. but have we consider why? why all these happen to King David? Didn’t God thru prophet Nathan announced King David’s sentence? i.e because of Uriah incident, sword will never depart from his house(2 Samuel 12:9-10).

Therefore, let us examine ourselves rather than pointing or hating our enemies. To build up ourselves spiritually. I am not perfect, let us all learn to together.

Other verses that i like is Psalm 13.

v1 to 2 – Reminds me of my reaction when things in life isn’t going well. When God didn’t answer you, does it means He has forgotten about you? Have we ever, in our lowest point, question God before? Do we have 100% consistent faith in God? Even Abraham has his weaknesses. ie. He can’t wait for the promise of Lord and bore Ishmael thru Hagar his handmaiden. And later the Promised son, Isaac, thru Sarah.

v3 – again, it reminds me the self-righteous of David. Who can really see God face to face? Let alone, demanding God to “look at him and answer”.

v5 -6 Reminds me to always look upon God always. To look beyond current trial and tribulation, and upon His unfailing love. To rejoice in Him and sing praises to Him. I understand it is hard to do in times of affliction. I too need to learn. Look at Peter, he manage to walk on water when his eyes are on Jesus. And he sunk when he look at the raging waters. Perhaps, we too need to focus on God and all around us will be at peace.

One of my fave hymn: Turn your eyes upon Jesus.

Why did Sarai give Hagar to Abram so that she could perhap obtain children by her? (Gen 16:1-2)

For mutual encouragement, please pardon me if i m too blunt:
From Gen 15 to 18, besides from Sarai to Sarah, did any other things change for Sarai/Sarah?

May be she passed the age of child bearing. The chin bible records directly as 她的月经停了 (Gen 12:5, Gen 16:2, Gen 18:11 and Gen 21:1)

May be this is a difference between man and woman. (1 Pet 3:7)

Yes, i believe that i am created in the image and likeness of my Heavenly Father too.

Yes, i want to go back to the home in heaven. And God says can, till now.
