2011 - Through The New Testament,  Revelation

Revelation 1

Revelation 1

We are now onto our final book in our Journey through the New Testament for 2011.  I have learned so much more this year in His Word… and I hope you have too.  Let us persevere and finish the race this year!

Bible Passage:  Revelation 1

How do you read the book of Revelation?

The Church had in the past organized Bible Seminars on this book.  Some of us have attended the the short term theological seminar where we studied this book.

But I must admit… although I have done all that, I still approach this book with trepidation.  ‘Cause I must admit… this is a hard book for me to read.

It’s hard not to read this book and get very afraid … cause of the fearsome judgement of God described so clearly.   But it’s also hard not to read this book and get very excited… cause of the wonder, glory and visions of the heavenly kingdom.. where we all long to go one day.

So how should I approach my reading of this book?

As I pondered this question, I opened up my Bible and started reading and the very first verse struck me…

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John,

~  Rev 1:1

The book of Revelation is the “Revelation of Jesus Christ”.

It reveals to us Jesus.

So instead of focusing on the visions, the horses and horsemen, the beasts, the many many other things described in Revelation, let us approach our reading this time by seeing what each chapter reveals to us about Jesus Christ.  And perhaps we can see how wonderful our Lord and Saviour is!

It is easy to get lost if we keep on focusing on trying to interpret and explain all these great mysteries.

In fact, when I thought further, the first verse reminded me that we are all created by God… and we are to know God… and God is very keen to reveal Himself to us so that we truly know Him.

Have you considered that our main purpose in this life is to know Jesus?

If we truly know Him… everything will be alright in our lives.

So if we read all those confusing stuff in Revelations, you should not get too worried, ’cause that’s not the main point.  It is about Jesus… always!

Life in this world is always subjected to confusion and distraction.

We wonder why bad things happen.  We wonder what is the point of life?  We wonder how to achieve things so that we feel contented and fulfilled.  We wonder why… the list just goes on and on.

But with Jesus as the centre of our focus… everything will make more sense.

Your purpose in life is to know Him and then to share Him with those around.

The Evangelistic Services is next week.  We have the tracting activity this weekend.

Now since you know Jesus already.. is it not time for you to reveal Him to others also?

Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega.  He is our beginning and the end.

Let us end this year by showing others Jesus in our lives.

May God bless our journey.
