Bible Passage: Revelation 4

Man’s fascination with the end of the world has seen the production of films, songs and stories on the topic. We are not short on speculations about how and what will occur on that fateful day. What does God say?

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the starts will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory, and He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

~ Matt 24:29-31

Whenever I remember how my RE teacher described the scene at Christ’s second coming, I am fearful and awed at the same time by the events.

God will come again to judge the wicked and evil that is certain. He is also coming to save His children.

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.”

~ Matt 25:31-32

Whether we be good out of fear of judgement or we have learnt to be good because we do not want to disappoint our gracious and loving Saviour, we must lead our lives properly, doing things worthy of our status as God’s children, having been baptised in His name.

God has given us so much. I get into a pensive mood each time we sing Hymn 90 Count Your Blessings during services. If there is one time I am forced to recall God’s blessings, it is when I am singing this simple yet beautiful hymn.

We are able to enjoy freedom from the urge to sin, freedom to enjoy His little blessings, to be joyous in whatever circumstances we may be in, if we have been walking in purity.

God will gather together His elect in His second coming.

Despite the calamities that will befall the world, the coldness, wickedness, sin, sickness and degradation, He has overcome all.

As described in Rev chapter 4, He sits on His throne, as Creator in the beginning of times and as Saviour in the end times. He reigns forever.

And our Saviour has come to save those of us who have been preparing and are ready to join Him in His Heavenly Kingdom!

“For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ”

~ 1 Thess 5:9

Are we ready?
