Isaiah Chapter 10 – Surety in Struggle

Quite a lot can be unpacked from this chapter – it is both heavy and hopeful.

For now, let’s talk about one of them.

The past year has been a whirlwind of change and challenge, of small wins and painful setbacks, the sum of mistakes to recover and grow from almost completely stifling any calls for celebration. But in the thick of all the hurt and heartache, in seeing and knowing that we cannot pull ourselves out of peril, save ourselves, God sees and knows, and His preservation and abidance abound even more.

Likewise, it was in oppression from the Assyrians that the remnant of Israel turned to God in full acceptance of their situation and helplessness, surrendering to the fact that only God was the One in full control. Vengeance and deliverance were God’s alone, and His faithfulness to His promises to His chosen people will stand in spite of it all.

As God repeatedly reminds us of such enduring truths, are we compelled to hold our status as God’s chosen people in the highest of regards? Do we take life’s struggles in our stride, feel grateful for their role as instrumental parts of a whole, of God’s whole salvation plan, pointing us back to God by forcing us to leave our trust in His will and time?

May God guide us in our lives as testaments of His kingdom to come.
