Jeremiah

Jeremiah Chapter 27

Imagine if you were living in the times of Jeremiah and you just experienced what was described in this chapter… what would be your choice?

Would you listen to the uplifting, inspiring and patriotic voices of the so called prophets calling out that despite what everything is going on, it will be alright?

These prophets were pushing for the people to unite to throw off the yoke of Babylon! They were incited to never serve the Babylon king.

Or would you listen to the prophet of God telling them that they should just surrender and accept that they will be taken to Babylon… until the time is right for God to restore them (vs 22)?

It was certainly an unpopular message but that was the message from God and not the desires of men.

Today’s passage echoes Jeremiah 23:16:

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; They speak a vision of their own heart, Not from the mouth of the Lord.

Who do we listen to today?

Also, let us consider Jeremiah who courageously followed God’s will and way. He brought a message to the people knowing that it would not be welcomed and would be shunned and disregarded. Yet, he continued doing it because he knew this is God’s plan.

What about us? Do we tell others of the truth of salvation from the Bible knowing that many would not like to hear?
