Jeremiah Chapter 46

Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord,
“For I am with you;
For I will make a complete end of all the nations
To which I have driven you,
But I will not make a complete end of you.
I will rightly correct you,
For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”

~ Jeremiah 46:28 ~

The last few chapters showed us how, despite repeated warnings, the chosen race decided to trust in their long time enemy, Egypt, rather than listen to God. And in today’s chapter, God revealed their folly because the ‘mighty’ Egyptians whom Israel chose to seek help from, would be overrun by the mightier Babylonians.

Egypt prefigures the world with all its allures of charm, pleasures, deceit, idolatry and even false sense of security. But one day, all this would be destroyed – very much like how the Babylonians would triumph over them. But we who are His true believers, there is much comfort to be found in Jeremiah 46:28.

“Do not fear … for I am with you”.

How many times have we heard this about our God. But how often do we truly believe in it and act on His words in obedience?

“But I will not make a complete end of you”.

Despite all our flaws and weaknesses, God still loves us and remembers us – just as He remembered the remnants who remained faithful to Him, obeying the words brought to them through Jeremiah.

I will rightly correct you,
For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.

However, we must remember that we have to pay for our sins and wrongs. We deserve to be punished.

But the discipline of God is just and done out of love. Hebrews 12 gives us a great understanding of the discipline of God. Read it carefully today and strengthen the hands that hang down, and the feeble knees. And make straight the paths for your feet, so that you may be healed (Heb 12:12-13).
