Jeremiah

Jeremiah Chapter 47

The Philistines were one of the long standing enemies of Israel. If you know your Old Testament, in Judges, Samson was always fighting against the Philistines. David against Goliath – the Philistine champion warrior.

And it was no different from Jeremiah’s time. But now, like in the previous chapter concerning Egypt, God is warning the Philistines that there is a coming destruction – now from Babaylon.

But they had the time to repent and turn to Him.

Very much like the last days today.

God will bring destruction on His enemies. But He is willing to accept them if they repent and go back to Him. Else they will have to face the certain judgement.

This mirrors the fact that one day, the world we are living in, will also be destroyed.

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4, NKJV)

But our God is willing and hoping that we will all come to the knowledge of truth – so that there will be no eternal destruction for His people. But the warning is to those unbelievers too.

Paul reminds us as Christians in a Gentile land, what our duty is. It s to preach so that they can hear and believe.

14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

~ Romans 10:14-55 ~
