Isaiah

Isaiah Chapter 45

Last Sabbath afternoon service in TK was led by Pr Wang MC who spoke on “A Blessed Servant”, where he expounded on who are the blessed servants of God.

As I was reading Isaiah 45, I was reminded of that sermon because of this verse:

“Look to Me, and be saved,
All you ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
~ Isaiah 45:22 ~

The first part of Isaiah 45 focuses on how God, the Master of all things, even uses a gentile king Cyrus, to achieve His work. The latter portion focuses on reminding the people of Israel that He is the Lord and Only Saviour.

When I was younger, I always thought why or how could people ever forget that Jesus is the Lord and only Saviour. However, I realised with life and everything going on, through the years, I have seen many in church who have forgotten or no longer acknowledge Jesus as the Saviour.

And even for regular church attendees – maybe at times, we too do not esteem this fact as much as we used to. And this can be seen from how we behave or serve Him.

Pr Wang quoted from Luke 12: 37 to 40 to show us who are the blessed servants.

Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching ….” (Luke 12:37)

“And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants” (Luke 12:38)

Blessed are those servants who is still watching when the Master comes.

Pr Wang also exhorted that those blessed servants are the ones who listen to the Word and do something. He referred to Luke 12:35 where we are to have our waist girded and our lamps burning.

We are to be prepared at all times and must be humble in our service. And not only that, we must be lamps shining the fruit of the light in goodness, righteousness and truth (Eph 5:9).

And if we do all this, we will be that blessed servant when the Saviour comes on the last day.

This is why we must always look to God so that we can be saved. Without His words and reminders from the Scriptures, we will forget and drift away.

Let us:

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
~ Hebrews 12:2 ~

The people of Israel did not do that and suffered. But God was merciful and compassionate and sought to redeem them again.

Let us not be like the Israelites, who needed such a terrible punishment, to even think about calling out to God again.

Let us be His blessed servants when He comes again.
