Judges Chapter 2 – Angel from Gilgal

The last time an angel appeared before Joshua while he was still alive was marked by declaration of disobedience.

From the moment the Israelites set foot on the land of Canaan and made their covenant with the LORD at Gilgal, God has been fighting the war for them. He led them as the Commander of the LORD’s army.

When they were obedient, they were unstoppable.

Many kings with greater and stronger armies were defeated because they were no match for LORD.

Alas, they could not follow through with the instructions of God to completely drive out the idol-worshipping nations from among them. They made treaties with these nations and allow them to continue to live in the land.

Their soft-heartedness towards these nations would soon become a snare to their faith.

The people realized their weakness and they weep before the LORD. Bochim, which mean weeping was named for them to remember how they have disappointed God and was an occasion for sadness and resolve.

That generation continue to serve the Lord faithfully.

Unfortunately, their commitment could not sustain beyond their time and their children began to suffer when the other nations continue to thrive among them and caused them constant sufferings.

This same situation can happen to any faithful Christian family if the children are not taught to hold fast to the faith. We must hold this lesson dear to our heart and look out for the faith of the younger generations. Or else, Bochim will surely be repeated among us.
